feb 6th was a good day for post-punk

earlier this month, two post-punk albums were released on the same day. so i'm gonna be writing my thoughts about them.

mizantrop - she past away

album cover of mizantrop by she past away

title track for this album starts off with this monologue (translated from turkish):

hello, today we have no news to refresh your zest for life. instead, we bring you a duo clad in black, at odds with themselves yet, speaking words that touch the heart. this isn't just a song or a performance. please welcome she past away with the anthem of a lost generation: misanthrope.

as a self identifying part of the lost generation this part at the start of the song gave me chills. and also the following part of (again translated from turkish):

through sleepless nights
murmuring again to myself a word that makes life worth living?
and change? the one i let go of...
whatever.

sums up what i feel at times. the hopelessness for the future and the bleakness that surrounds my thoughts. the change that never comes. she past away is spot on with the lyrics. their layered guitars and synths with drowned out vocals are also perfect for the subject matter at hand.

also i might be mistaken but the release of this album being on the same day as the earthquake that brought so much pain to so many people can not be a coincidence.

dagger - ist ist

album cover of dagger by ist ist

i don't have too much to say about ist ist as opposed to she past away. this is just really solid post-punk / darkwave from the uk. i enjoyed it but i still prefer architecture and the art of lying by them. i think this was a bit forgettable and formulaic.
