life and stuff (and i bought a steamed deck)
life
it's been a while. i finished up this year at uni and the last exams were really stressful. then i decided to extend my suffering by choosing a hard elective. i chose emergency med and honestly i regret nothing. it felt like in just two weeks i learned more than my four years in uni. it was also really fulfilling to put what i learned into practice.
steamed deck
anyhow i recently bought a steam deck! it was hard to get my hands on due to it not being sold in my country and i had to rely on a friend of a relative who got it from russia (weirdly it is not sold there officially either). i got kind of scammed since the listing was for the oled model but they sent in an lcd one. i honestly don't care because it is still cheaper than buying it from the resellers here.
i've only had my grubby little hands on this for a little more than a week and it's been a blast. the last time i properly played games was sometime in 2018.1 i just can't find time or energy to sit down in front of a desk after a long day. casually picking this thing up is fantastic and solves that main issue for me. also this thing runs linux!! like it's a whole ass pc under the hood. you can install non steam games, emulators and almost anything. with decky loader the plugins and customisability is wonderful as well.
honestly i've never been a triple a gamer that plays the latest, most talked about games. i'm now playing the stuff i wanted to experience but never got the chance to. like the silent hill series. i'm playing the first entry using duckstation and it's been pretty fun. i'm also playing need for speed: most wanted. i have a lot more ps1 and ps2 games on my backlog that i want to experience.
the end
yeah that's mostly where i've been. stressing about uni and then messing with the steam deck so i didn't post anything on here. it's also pretty intimidating to update a blog after so many weeks of absence.
this is also the last summer holiday that i truly have. next year it's straight into internship and then straight into having an actual job. that's pretty stressful. granted it's 2 whole years away but time flies by and the future is scaring me.
this summer also feels really dull. none of my friends are in town. they are off in internships, preparing for makeup exams or trying to find places to rent. on top of that the wildfires here have been absolutely soul crushing to witness. my hometown was burning on something like 8 different places at the same time. needless to say this not a strong start for a good summer but i'm hoping it turns around.
endnotes
i don't know where to put this but the first handheld i had was the psp and i only had two games for it (the ones that came with it in the box). needless to say i didn't play with the psp all that much. couple years ago i remembered it existed and installed a custom firmware on it. then loaded an sd card with bunch of games and passed it along to my cousin who could put it to better use. i know i would be stoked if i had that with unlimited games as a kid.

i enjoy watching someone talk about or play games and i like games it's just i always preferred to watch content about it rather than actually play the game. it's a shame because there are so many good games that are better experienced first hand.↩
